Professional Dental Cleanings
Routine dental cleanings are essential for maintaining a healthy mouth. Even with great brushing and flossing at home, plaque and tartar still build up on your teeth and under your gums. Our gentle yet thorough cleanings remove this buildup to prevent gum disease, cavities, and bad breath.
What do we do during a typical cleaning appointment?
- Remove plaque and tartar from your teeth
- Polish your teeth for a smooth, clean finish
- Apply Fluoride treatment to strengthen your enamel
- Provide personalized tips on brushing and flossing techniques
We typically recommend cleanings every 6 months for the average adult with a healthy mouth, although some patients may benefit from more frequent visits based on their individual needs and in cases of active gum inflammation or disease.., questions, and concerns. Treatment decisions are made together, with a clear understanding of options and outcomes.
Preventative Dental Care
Preventative dentistry is the foundation of a healthy mouth. We focus on identifying and addressing small concerns before they become bigger problems.
Our preventative services include:
- Comprehensive dental exams to diagnose problems early before they cause you pain or infection
- Fluoride treatments to make your teeth more resistant to decay
- Custom nightguards to prevent tooth damage from clenching or grinding habits
- Custom sportsguards to protect your front teeth from damage or loss due to impacts which can occur during sports
- Personalized oral hygiene recommendations
Dental Sealants
Sealants are a simple and effective way to protect teeth from cavities, especially in children and teens. Our back teeth have deep grooves which are a great hiding spot for bacteria to begin making cavities. Some teeth are so groovy that even the best brushing is not enough to prevent decay. Applied as a thin, protective coating to the chewing surfaces of back teeth, sealants cover the grooves preventing bacteria from residing in these grooves and creating decay.
Benefits of sealants:
- Fast and easy to apply
- Low cost
- No freezing is required
- Long lasting protection against decay
We often recommend sealants for children as soon as their permanent molars erupt, but anyone with deep grooves in their teeth or a history of decay can benefit from dental sealants.
By staying on top of your dental care, you reduce your risk of cavities, gum disease, and tooth loss and save on more costly treatments down the road. The best time to fix dental problems is while they are still small and easy/cost effective to address. Often, these small problems have no symptoms so without regular dental checkups and x-rays they won’t be identified until they turn into a bigger, more costly issue. We encourage our patients to visit our office for regular maintenance (cleaning) visits at least twice yearly (every 6 months) so we can help identify small issues early and prevent them from turning into bigger issues later on.
